Top four things to see and ask when visiting campus

Now is a great time to plan campus tours! So to help you get started, here are four things to see and ask when visiting campus as a prospective student.

1. Residence and accommodation

If you are visiting a university campus, and you're a student living far away from the school, you may want to ask what options are available for residence. There are different types of residences, some include meal plans, some have different ways to choose roommates and some may be closer to campus than others. So make sure you not only ask about accommodation but try to stop by during your tour to get a look as well. It could become your home away from home.

2. Clubs and activities on campus

During your time as a university student, you'll be spending a lot of time in lectures, tutorials and labs. However, you still need time to connect with others and to get involved and join clubs that are within your faculty and even outside of your faculty. Ask about the variety of clubs your prospective school has, as well as how you can find out about them when school starts.

3. Faculty buildings and lecture halls

Depending on your program, you may be in certain buildings more than others. While it's important to visit the whole campus when taking a tour, you should try to see the buildings you may be in more frequently, as they pertain to your faculty and program.

4. Current students

As a prospective student, asking current and even former students about the school of your choice is important. It can give you a more detailed and personal perspective on the school. A current student may actually be leading your tour! Take advantage of that and ask all the questions you can while touring the campus. Ontario Tech also has a Peer Mentorship program that allows new students to have guidance and support during their first year.
