Ridgebacks round-up: October 2015

Men's hockey

At the end of October, the Ridgebacks men's hockey team had an overall record of 6-7-0, with the last win of the month against the Carleton Ravens of 3-1 on the debut game of new coach, Curtis Hodgins. The Ridgebacks sat in fifth at the end of October, with a 4-3-0 conference standing.

Women's hockey

The women's Ridgebacks hockey teams' overall record by the end of October was 5-6-0, with their last game being a 3-1 loss against the Waterloo Warriors in the last weekend of October. The Warriors scored back-to-back goals in the final period to win, though the Ridgeback's had the game tied until then. The Ridgeback's conference record in October was 3-5-0.

Men's soccer

The Ridgebacks men's soccer team had their season come to a close on October 28 with a loss of 2-1 against Queen's Gaels, which was the OUA Eastern Conference quarter finals in Kingston. The Ridgebacks finished their season with an overall record of 5-13-3 and a conference record of 5-9-2. Women's soccer

The women's soccer teams' season also came to an end on October 28 with a loss against the Carleton Ravens, which is the Ridgebacks' first time not winning a playoff game since 2012. The team's overall record was 11-6-3, with a conference record of 9-5-2. Congratulations to the team, and Ontario Tech University is proud of a hard fought season!




Nik Vanfroot finished in the top 10 at the CURA National Championship in a very tightly contested race that had him finishing 2 seconds behind the University of Victoria rower in the "B" finals. At the Head of the Welland, the men's 4+ crew finished in first in their race and took home the gold medal. Congratulations to all the rowers on their season!

Men's curling

The Ridgebacks men's and women's curling teams' seasons didn't start off very well, with two losses against the Trent Excalibur and Queen's Gaels. The teams are looking for a win in November!

Women's lacrosse

The Ridgebacks picked up All Star titles when they played host to the OUA Championship to finished off their season, with Taylor Landry and Taylor Milburn taking home the titles for midfielders. Western won the tournament and took home their fifth LAX banner. Congratulations to the women's lacrosse team on an awesome season!


The golf season also came to an end in October, with Toronto and Waterloo finishing on top during the OUA Gold Championships. Ontario Tech golfers James Krantz and Mackenzie Dasti both finished within the top 10 for the tournament. The duo shot a three-over 75 to open the two-round championship at the Ridgebacks home course, the host of the OUA event for the second straight season. Congratulations to all of the Ontario Tech golfers, and a big 'job well done' to the Ontario Tech Athletic department for hosting two championships in the same weekend!
