Name: Andrew Fliegel
Program of study: Communications and Digital Media Studies
Year of study: Third year
Why did you choose your program?
I chose my program to better understand why we engage with each other the way that we do. Whether it is face-to-face or using new technology, I want to better understand how historical and present day practices can help thrust us into a better future.
What do you want to do after you graduate?
Immediately after graduating I want to work in Japan (a country in which I admire on a social, political and economic level) for a year to better my understanding in intercultural communications.
What is your favourite thing about our university?
The Charles Street Campus. You can’t go wrong with exposed brick and a loft style educational environment.
What is your favourite can’t-miss university event?
Don’t skip orientation! You’ll thank me in four years.
What is your favourite past Student Speak blog?
I like anything that has to do with budgeting. Student Speak comes in handy when you’re trying to make every penny count.
What is your favourite thing to do in the Durham Region?
You can’t go wrong with a movie at Landmark Cinemas. Reclining chairs, popcorn and a sweet treat at Caffe Demetre right afterwards.
What is your favourite Durham Region restaurant?
TNT Sushi in Ajax… easily the best sushi in the Durham Region.
What would you tell first-year you, in one sentence?
“It will be ok.”
